Horror Film Review
Horror Film Review

Looking for the title of a foreign fantasy/horror film from about 5 years ago? Very urban, set in modern day.
Bad news: I never actually saw the movie, and I have only the vaguest impression of the ad campaign. I think the previews (mostly limited to SciFi channel and similar niches) aired during late 2004, but the movie was made a year or two earlier. I don't remember where the film came from, but I think it was a Slavic country. Maybe Russia?
The movie was not in English, but the ad campaign hid that - they just played lots of spooky music and showed the characters at night. One had glowing (yellow? green?) eyes. I checked out a couple of reviews and no one seemed too excited, but now not knowing what this movie was is killing me. Um. This probably won't help, but the previews gave a vibe of Underworld (visually) crossed with Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" series (spooky things coming out of the woodwork to do scary things, not necessarily to wear leather and sulk at each other)
Long shot, I know, but does anyone have a guess?
That sounds an awful lot like Day Watch and Night Watch, two horror/sci-fi flicks from Russia. DON'T watch them. They stink to high heaven. They single redeeming feature of the films is great special effects. That's it. The plot stinks, the story is even worse, and the characters are poorly characterized. The sole consolation I have about watching them is I wasn't the one that paid to rent them. lol

Fifty years ago, Hammer Films released The Curse of Frankenstein. The now-legendary British company went on to make such classics as Dracula (and its many sequels), making international stars out of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, changing the face of horror cinema, and inspiring a generation of Hollywood filmmakers, including George Lucas, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton... |
